The goal of Red Ribbon Week is to encourage students and community members to stay away from recreational drug activity. The school will participate in this week from October 28-31.

Members of the community can sign the pledge at the Red Ribbon Campaign website. The pledge is to not only stay drug free, but to also set the guidelines for a drug free life. The guidelines:

  1. As parents and citizens, we will talk to our children and the children in our lives about the dangers of drug abuse
  2. We will set clear rules for our children about not using drugs
  3. We will set a good example for out children by not using illegal drugs or medicine without a prescription
  4. We will monitor our children’s behavior and enforce appropriate consequences, so that out rules are respected
  5. We will encourage family and friends to follow the same guidelines to keep children safe from substance abuse

The school participated in more ways than just the crazy themes for the week, although, the students and teachers who did provided some colorful displays in the hallways. Cosmetology offered to do crazy hairstyles for $2 if students or teachers didn’t want to do their own hair.

“I did Mrs. Shaw’s hair,” senior Mya Johnson said. “It was pretty easy, I was just free styling it. She just wanted crazy hair  and she didn’t want to do it herself. I also gave her some glitter at the finish. I felt like pigtails were crazy, and don’t nobody see any teachers with pigtails.”

Tomorrow is wear red day for students and teachers, and don’t forget to sign the pledge on the Red Ribbon Campaign Website.
