The varsity softball Lady Lions will be heading to playoffs again this year after defeating Vista Ridge 11-6 in extra innings. A home run hit by senior Hailey MacKay in the seventh inning tied the game and forced the game into extra innings. Before the tie, the Lady Lions were down 5-6 after the fifth inning.

“We were so fired up,” MacKay said. “I knew at that point that we had all the momentum on our side so it was only a matter of time before we were going to take that win.”

In the extra innings, hits by junior Abbey Orlich and senior Gabby Walton resulted in two scores for the Lady Lions. Then, the Lady Lions won the game after the Lady Rangers couldn’t come back in the bottom of the eighth. The Lady Lions are 8-5 in district play.

“We knew we had to win to get into playoffs,” Orlich said.

Next, the Lady Lions play Dripping Springs for senior night tomorrow at 7. This is the final regular season game, and they will start playoffs next week. Opponent and times TBA.
