Signing up for the future

All the seniors showing their school pride after the rally

Senior year is the year students decide to apply for a college or take another route. Our seniors will be attending colleges from Texas all the way to Brigham Young University. For the first time ever, there was a “College Signing Day” for all of the seniors graduating and entering college who chose to partake in it.

“I felt kind of honored that they chose our class to do it,” future student of Abilene Christian University Devaughn Imes said. “It was like they put all of their trust in us and believed in us that we would all be going somewhere.”

The short rally began with the band performing the song “Sail” by AWOLNATION, then a routine by the cheerleaders, followed by the Blue Belles “Welcome to the Jungle” dance.

“I thought the event itself went rather well,” Mrs. Wood said. “It had been in the planning stages for a long time and to have the seniors be recognized for making that college decision. It was nice for them to be acknowledged  by their peers and by the rest of the campus, because they have worked hard.”

After the three performances, the seniors walked out in separate groups according to the university they would attend after graduation and signed a large banner then took their seat together.

“It was really fun,” future Texas State student Laura Done said. “I think my favorite part was getting to see my classmates that were going to be going to school with me.”

This is a new idea that quite possibly could become a tradition. It was a 15 minute rally that happened during pride time on Friday, May 1. For more coverage on this event, check out KVUE.com.
