Boys Basketball hosts Lion Classic tournament

The Lion Classic Basketball Tournament finished play on Saturday, December 13. Six teams, including Leander, Rouse, Elgin, Vista Ridge, McNeil and Lufkin played over the course of 3 days in both gyms.

Saturday, 12/13

For the last day of the tournament, the Lions took on Lufkin and lost 77-56.

The first period had a slower pace and ended tied 9-9. In the second, though, the Lions fell behind and stayed that way for the rest of the game. The second ended 33-16. After half time, the boys fell under the pressure, 53-29. In the last, they tried with all their might and almost caught up to Lufkin, but it wasn’t enough, ending the game 77-56.

Since the tournament is over, the Lions will take on Georgetown at Georgetown High School at 7:30 p.m. for their first district game.

Friday, 12/12

The boys only had to play one game on Friday, but it was against our rival Rouse. The game started and ended with the Lions trailing.

The first period set a fast pace and ending Rouse 22-6, but the Lions made gains through during the second, ending the half Rouse 35-18. During the third and fourth, the boys attempted to catch up, but to no avail, losing 67-44.

Their next game is tomorrow against Lufkin at 2 p.m. in the main gym.

Thursday, 12/11

To hit off the tournament, the boys played Elgin and won 43-25, their second win of the season.

The first quarter was easily taken by the Lions, 20-10. They kept the lead the entire time, although Elgin got close.

In the second game for the Lions, they played McNeil. The game was tough and close, eventually tying in the third quarter, but the Lions weren’t able to secure the win. They lost 52-46.
