The Lady Lions varsity basketball team took on the East View Lady Patriots for their final game on Senior Night February 10.

The girls started off with a three-pointer, additionally scoring baskets here and there, but the Lady Patriots started speeding ahead during the first quarter. The Lady Lions caught up and ended the first quarter with a tie of 11-11. The second quarter consisted of blocking from both teams, with a few baskets being made. The score was 23-24 at the end of the first half.

“The girls stayed focused and kept fighting even when things were not looking so good,” Coach Jonathan Lamb said. “We were down 10 with 3 minutes to go, but we were able to pressure East View and cause turn overs.”

The second half started off with several free throws back and forth. Senior Gigi Martinez provided great shooting to the third quarter. Seniors Rayanna Carter and Alisa Greene also provided excellent shooting to the beginning of the fourth quarter. Three free throws were given to senior Sonya Reyes as well.

The girls were hot on East View’s heels by the middle of the fourth quarter. Great assistance and blocking was provided by seniors Mariah Springer and AJ Luna. Rayanna Carter tied the score at 48-48 with seconds left of the fourth quarter. The game went into a heated four minute overtime. Both teams were making baskets back and fourth, but the Lady Lions were having difficulty getting ahead until Reyes made a basket and got the girls one point ahead at 54-53. Multiple timeouts were called from both sides with less than a minute left of overtime. The girls won 55-53 when a free throw was made by the Lady Lions. Way to go, Ladies!

“The girls attacked the defenses very well,” Coach Lamb said.  “It was an exciting game, and a great way to send off our seniors.”

The girls are playing a neutral conference game away in Dripping Springs tomorrow night at 7:30. Come out and support your Lady Lions!
