Hungry Lions Ready to Race
Swim team brings new talent to the surface at Intersquad and Rouse meets
Four swimmers competing at the Lions’ inter-squad meet.

On Saturday, September 13th, the Lions swim team competed against Meridian and Rouse High Schools.
The girls team placed first with 116 points; the boys team came in second after Rouse; and the combined points for both LHS teams came second to Rouse in the overall competition.
“We all did pretty well, [and] we have a good team this year,” senior Cole Moosavi, who has been on the swim team for all four years of his high school career, said.
Coach Colin Sully is also very optimistic about the team this year.
“This is my seventh year of coaching, and I think I haven’t seen a group this fast in probably about five years,” he said.
The previous Saturday, September 6th, the Lions held an intrasquad meet at Apache Blockhouse Pool. The inter-squad meet is an opportunity to get the nerves out.
“You know, a lot of our freshmen haven’t swum a real high school meet before, and although this isn’t a real high school meet, it’s just an opportunity for them to get to race, and it’s a fun atmosphere,” Sully said.

The team may have only been racing against each other, but these are competitive athletes so they swam as if medals depended on it. As a result, both girls and boys teams were better prepared for their competition with Meridian and Rouse.
“They’re really good, actually; a lot better than we were as freshmen. They have a lot of experience,” Moosavi said.
Both Sully and Moosavi are very confident about the upcoming competitive year, especially in the freshman swimmers.
“This will probably be one of the best years of the four I’ve been here.” Sully added, “We’ve got some hungry lions that want to race.”
This Saturday, Sept. 20th the swim team has a Swimathon fundraiser at Apache Blockhouse Pool from 7am-10:30am. Anybody can donate or better yet, come watch and support the team.
“A lot of people will do per-lap pledges, some people do flat pledges,” Coach Sully said.
After their fundraiser, the Swim team has four Saturdays in a row of meets.
“There’s a lot of people coming out [to the meets] and it’s gonna be a lot of fun,” Coach Sully said. All swim team events are completely free other than concessions.
