Tennis Loses Tough Game Against Cedar Park

Varsity comes up short against Dripping Springs

This past week as well as this week varsity Tennis faced off in two big games against Cedar Park and Dripping Springs.

The Girls-Doubles had a tough time with Cedar Park when senior Ashley Snieder and senior Bailee Higgins fought hard but came up short in their match against Cedar Park with a score of 6-2 for both sets. Senior Katie Lofton and junior Madison Flesner also fell short with a score of 6-1 in boths sets. Sophomore Alexandra Peterson and sophomore Laruen Fuller also faced a tough loss as they scored 6-3 in the first set and 6-1 in the second set with the Timberwolves claiming a victory.

The Boys-Doubles also faced some losses but also a really close match. Senior Alper Orkun and junior Joseph Rexrode fell short when they scored 6-4 in their first set and 6-3 in their second set. Senior Keaton Adcock and senior Kiefer Peckham won in a close match that had four sets as they scored 4-6 in their first set, 7-6 in their second set, 10-6 in their third set, and finally pulled off the victory in a close fourth set with the score being 12-10.  Junior Luis Farias and junior Russell Thomas also had a close match but ultimately lost when they scored 6-2 in their first set, 6-3 in their second set, and in their final set faced the tough loss with a score of 10-0.

“We’ve done pretty good but still need to work on some things, both of us, to improve,” said junior Russell Thomas about his doubles partner Luis Farias.

Mixed-Doubles also faced a tough loss when junior Adhithya Balaji and sophomore Emilee Scanlon scored 6-0 in their first set and 7-5 in their second set giving Cedar Park the win.

“We’ve only played a couple of matches together but we’ve improved a lot as well like she’s gotten a lot better at volleys and stuff,” said junior Adhithya Balaji.

G-Singles came up short in their when Snieder came up short in her singles match with a score 6-3 in the first set and 6-1 in the second set. Higgins also had a rough match with a score of 6-2 in the first set and 6-1 in the second set. Lofton as well faced a rough singles match with a score of 6-1 in both sets.

B-Singles had one win and one loss against the Timberwolves when Rexrode scored 6-1 in the first set and 6-0 in the second set giving Leander the win. Thomas faced a tough singles match as he scored 6-1 in the first set and 6-4 in the second with Cedar Park claiming the victory.

“I think I’ve been pretty good, but I feel like I can do better if I had more practice and did stuff outside of school,” said Thomas.

Varsity had a tough game against Cedar Park as the finale score was 2-10 with Cedar Park getting the win.

“The team as a whole has really improved we’ve gotten twice as better than like two years ago. It’s really swell,” said Balaji.

 

Last Saturday varsity faced off against Dripping Springs in a tough game

G-Doubles faced a series of tough losses when Snieder and Higgins lost both of their doubles matches with a score of 6-4 in the first set and 6-1 in the second set. Lofton and Flesner also faced a tough doubles match with a score of 6-1 in both sets giving Dripping Springs the victory. Fuller and Peterson were also swept by the Tigers with a score of 6-2 in the first set and 6-0 in the second set.

B-Doubles faced some close matches but came up short when Orkun and Adcock came up short in their doubles match with a score of 7-5 in the first set and 6-3 in the second set. Rexrode and Peckham had a close match against the Tigers with a score 7-5 in the first set, 7-6 in the second set, and 10-5 in the last set as the Tigers claimed another victory.

MX-Doubles came up short when Balaji and Scanlon lost their doubles match with a score of 6-1 in the first set and a score of 6-0 in the second set.

G-Singles faced a series of tough losses against the Tigers as Snieder lost both of her sets with a score of 6-4 in the first set and a score of 6-0 in the second set. Higgins came up just short in a hard fought singles match as she scored 7-5 in the first set, 3-6 in the second set, and came up just short with a score of 6-9 in last set. Lofton faced a tough singles match with a score of 6-4 in the first set and a score of 6-3 in the second set. Fuller also faced a tough loss as she scored 6-1 in the first set and 6-3 in the second set. Peterson came up short in her singles match when she scored 6-1 in both of her sets. Flesner as well had a tough match as scored 6-0 in the first set and 6-1 in the second set with the Tigers claiming the win.

B-Singles also faced a series of tough matches when Orkun fought hard in his singles match with a score of 7-5 in the first set, 6-7 in the second set, but then came up short with a score of 10-2 in the final set. Rexrode also faced a tough match with a score of 6-3 in the first set and 6-2 in the second set. Adcock and Peckham both faced tough singles matches with Adcock scoring 6-3 in both of his sets and Peckham scoring 6-4 in the first set and 6-3 in the second with the Tigers claiming both victories. Farias also faced a tough loss as the score was 6-3 in the first set and 6-2 in the second set. Thomas scored 6-2 in the first set but the match ultimately did not finish.

“I think I did pretty good, I’ve done a lot better, improved, my ground strokes are pretty consistent,” said Balaji.

Varsity faced a tough game against Dripping Springs with the final score being 0-18 in favor of the Tigers.

“They’ve done pretty good I mean I’m impressed with them they’re holding their grip, trying hard and fighting back in every match,” said Thomas.
