The boys and girls varsity track teams placed 9th and 5th at the Patriot Relays at Georgetown High School.

“I feel like we were successful at Georgetown Relays because everyone finally clicked together as one team and each individual contributed their part, realized that they matter and that their contribution affects the whole outcome of the team,” Head Coach Gigi Heermans said.

The varsity girls team placed 5th at the meet. The top finishes were by senior Olufunmilayo Orekoya in the 400m with 2nd, junior Kayla Chargois in the 300m hurdles for 3rd and the 400m relay team who finished 2nd.

“The mile relay is one of our best relays so we always work on trying to improve our time,” sophomore Taylor Bode said. “This week we added a new runner hoping to better our time and we ended up getting second place only a few seconds behind a really fast team.”

The boys placed 9th in their meet. Their top results were by sophomore Gavin Davis who placed 1st in the 100m and junior Juan Ruiz who placed 3rd in the 110m hurdles.

“At district I hope that this atmosphere that was created at East View Relays radiates at district creating even more success,” Coach Heermans said. “Also I hope that all the work they have put in pays off with a District Championship with my JV and multiple events advancing to Area with my varsity.”

Next the varsity track teams will be competing at District Track Meet at Vandegrift High School on April 12-14.

I hope that this atmosphere that was created at East View Relays radiates at district creating even more success.
