The boys and girls varsity track teams both had members to qualify for the regional meet in San Antonio after competing at Area on April 21.

“I’m used to having the element of surprise thanks to my age and looks,” sophomore Gavin Davis said. “As the team begins to slim down in numbers it gets easier to measure out a person and learn how to beat them in a race and being in Area this next group of runners are all work no play, so it’ll be hard but exciting.”

These boys are hard workers and I believe they can do it.

The girls that are advancing are seniors Claire Crone in the 1600 and 3200 meter, Rayanna Carter in the 200 meter, Olufunmilayo “Funmi” Orekoya 400 meter, and the mile relay and triple jumpers sophomore Busisiwe Banda and senior Pardes Larks. For the boys, junior Derek Voss in pole vault, senior Ray Gibson in the triple jump, the 4X200 and 4X400 meter relay teams, junior Charlie Ruiz in the 110 meter hurdles and Davis in the 400 meter will all be advancing to regionals.

“What we want to accomplish at the regional meet is to get our relays out to state and have each of our athletes competing in individual events PR and get to state,” Head Coach Ryan Dubelbeis said. “We have a lot of work ahead of us for that to happen but these boys are hard workers and I believe they can do it.”

Next they will be competing at regional track in San Antonio on April 29 and 30.
