The varsity and JV wrestlers competed at the District Meet at Vandegrift High School. Six wrestlers qualified regionals and placed in the top four.

“I thought that the team competed well,” Head Coach Adam McLain said. “They set a new standard for Leander HS wrestling. We hope to build and progress from this point on.”

Six wrestlers placed in the tournament with two being district champs. Junior Ricky Smith won fourth in the 120 weight class, freshman Lance Reed in the 132 weight class and sophomore Isaiah Wood in the 160 weight class won third and junior Zeke Garcia won second place in the 220 weight class.

“Without my teammates and Coach McLain I wouldn’t even placed in district,” Smith said. “The many hours that we have spent in the wrestling room has gotten us where we are.”

Freshman John Geiger for the 106 weight class and senior Tyler Young in the 195 weight class won first to become district champs.

“[The feeling is] great, it is a surreal feeling but I can’t focus on that, I need to focus on the region tournament so that I can make it to state,” Geiger said.

Next wrestling will compete at the Delco Center on February 12 and 13 in the Regional Tournament.
