There’s a few more weeks left of school for seniors to get a couple of scholarships so that they can afford college. There’s a lot of opportunities on Naviance for all students, but here are just a few, plus a little bit of information about each one. To access these scholarships, click the link, or log into your Naviance account.

  • Abbott and Fenner Scholarship Program – A fairly easy way to possibly earn $1,000. The deadline is June 15, 2015. The application requires an essay of 500-1,000 words about life goals and college major decisions.
  • Al’s Formal Wear Scholarship – This scholarship is also $1,000, but does require a few more things. The requirements (in addition to the application) are two letters of recommendation, a transcript, and a 500 word essay about educational goals. May 31, 2015 at midnight Central time is the official deadline for this scholarship.
  • Don’t Mess with Texas Scholarship – April 4th, the deadline for this scholarship is coming up fast, but it’s totally worth it. There is one $6,000 grand prize scholarship and two $2,000 scholarships that will be awarded. There is an essay, but this one is only 300-350 words. The essay must be about how you have helped to discourage littering, or prevented it.
  • Global Lift Equipment Scholarship – The value for this scholarship is only $500, but it’s not super hard and it has a late deadline (June 15,2015). There’s an application plus a short story requirement. The short story must be from the viewpoint of an inanimate object.
  • Spring Semester Scholarship – Probably the easiest scholarship I’ve applied for all year. They said it took two minutes so I applied, and yes, it does take around two minutes. There’s a short answer question: everyone has heard the expression “spring cleaning” – what do you need to clean this spring and why? and then a simple application. This scholarship is worth $2,000.
  • Texas Hospitality Association Poster Contest – This scholarship seems like fun; it’s a poster design contest. The poster must convey the message that it is illegal to consume alcohol if you are under the age 21. First place wins $5,000, but there is also a prize for second, third, and fourth place. The deadline to enter is May 1, 2015.

Those are just six scholarships found on Naviance. While they aren’t worth a ton, keep in mind that college books aren’t always included in college tuition. A $1,000 scholarship would help pay for books, meal plans, or could just be put toward overall tuition. So, seniors, don’t forget to look around for scholarships, you can start with the six above.
