The Lions squared off against old long hated rivals, the Vandegrift Vipers all last week on Tuesday night and Thursday night. After two games were played, the Lions pulled through with two victories that week.

The first game was played at Vandegrift with the final score being 8-5. Senior Cameron Castillo led the Lions in the field due to his pitching that night. In the field, seniors Isaiah Martinez, Jason McCall and EJ Olivo backed up Castillo through the entire game making clutch plays. The Lions had several game changing hits during the night including a home run hit by McCall who started the rally to win the game.

“I’m just glad I was able to go out and prove to my team I’m good at pitching,” senior Cameron Castillo said. “It feels really good to go out and get a win with my teammates.”

The Lions played the Vipers again at the Diamond at Leander and they came out with another victory with the final score being 2-1. Senior Joel Miller pitched for the Lions that night and had many strikeouts through the entire night. Senior Trey Roberts had game saving saves and senior catcher Wayland Cary performed strongly through the entire night.

“Going out and winning a ball game, there is no better feeling than that,” senior Joel Miller said. “We are now 2-2 and we intend to keep going strong for the rest of the year.”

The Lions will play again next week against the Cedar Park Timberwolves. Their first game was supposed to be played on Tuesday night, but due to weather complications, the game was moved to yesterday. They play the Timberwolves again on Friday, April 1.
