The baseball season is almost over, and for the seniors these last few weeks are what motivate them to keep going for the last 6 weeks. The one who seems to feel that the most is senior Jason McCall.
McCall was born in Austin, Texas, and then moved to Leander. He went to Whitestone Elementary and Leander Middle School where he discovered his love and passion for baseball. His parents originally signed him up so he can just give it a try and see if he would enjoy it. He emotionally loved it and kept playing it through elementary and middle school. McCall plays for the varsity baseball team and is number 14. He plays 2nd base and is one of the starting players on the roster. To his players, McCall is the guy who gives it his all on and off the field.
“The moment I started to play when I was a little kid, I knew I wanted to keep playing this game as long as I could,” McCall said. “It has always been a part of me and my entire family and I want to show all my teammates that I do really care about it.”
When he finally got to high school, he tried out for the team and he made the freshmen team. When he was a junior he made the varsity team. His senior year he became one of the captains for the team. His favorite moment playing for the team was during his sophomore year. They were playing Rouse and at the end of the 6th inning they were losing 12-0. With an insane amount of luck, skill, and conrodamery, the lions came back and won the game in the last inning.
“It’s been our main goal this year to make it to the playoffs and prove to the district that we are not out of the game just yet,” McCall said. “So far, we are in a really good spot right above Vista Ridge and we all intend to make not only coach happy, but our families as well.”
McCall lives with his mom and dad and his younger brother Cameron and sister Paige who goes to Leander middle. His plans for the future is to go to Blaine University with a bunch of friends and soon be transferred to Texas A&M. He wants to become an engineer and plans to get his degree in the future.
