The Leander Lions lost 27-49 against the Westwood Warriors in the last home game of the season.

“We gave everything we had on the offense,” senior Adison Larue said. “We had a few bad plays that we can fix.”

The Lions started the game strong in the first quarter, scoring two touchdowns by junior Xavier Dotson and senior Rashad Carter to end the quarter up 13-7. In the second quarter, the Lions were held scoreless while the Warriors scored 21 unanswered points. The Lions were down at the end of the half 13-28.

“We could’ve came with a better mentality before the game to do better,” junior Xavier Dotson said. “We have to prepare with better practices throughout the week to get wins.”

The Warriors scored on their first drive of the second half but the Lions responded for their own touchdown. The Warriors scored in the last seconds of the quarter to increase their lead 20-42. In the start of the fourth quarter, the Warriors scored to keep a firm lead. Carter scored a 27-yard touchdown but it was too late as the Lions lost 27-42.

“[Vandergrift] is a really good team on both sides of the ball,” senior Eric Locust said. “They are an undefeated team so we’re gonna have to prepare well to put up a fight.”

The Lions have now lost their 8th game in a row and will face against the Vandergrift Vipers in the last game of the season.
