Current senior Hailey MacKay hitting the ball during last year’s softball season. The Lady Lions face off against Rouse on February 23.

The Lady Lions faced a tough defeat at the beginning of their season against Austin Bowie 3-5 last night.

“We didn’t play our best defense, and we need to be more productive with runners in scoring position,” senior Hailey MacKay said. “Also the errors we made on defense were during critical times, so we need to limit those.”

Sophomore Mackenzie Catalina, and junior Adrienne Ousley both had RBI hits during the game.

“I think I did a good job at getting on base and moving the runners into scoring position or moving the runners to home,” Catalina said. “I played a new position on defense (second base), because of injuries and I stopped every ball that came my way, and I did good at being in the right position. Overall I did pretty good.”

The Lady Lions next game is against Rouse on February 23 at 7 p.m.

We also just need to make the clutch routine plays and take all the outs that we’re given.

“I think that Rouse will be very similar to what we’ve faced so far so we’ll need to hit the ball well and execute things like bunts, hit and runs, etc. especially when we have runners in scoring position,” MacKay said. “We also just need to make the clutch routine plays and take all the outs that we’re given.”
