The varsity boys’ track competed at Westlake in their first track meet of the season. They came out with fourth place in overall team points.

“The work ethic of our boys are driven by our seniors this year,” Head Coach Ryan Dubelbeis said. “They don’t need a ton of motivation. They know what our goals are and they know what it takes to get there. Our success this year has been directly reflected from that attitude and leadership. They come to workouts everyday with their hard hat on.”

We’ve worked extremely hard getting in the right shape to run fast times.

The standouts, according to Coach Dubelbeis, were sophomore Gavin Davis who got 3rd in the 100 meter dash, 1st in the 400 meter dash and ran with the 4×400 meter relay team that placed 2nd and senior Chris Patek who placed 4th in the 100 meter dash and the 4X100 meter relay team, 6th in the long jump and 3rd in the 4X200 meter relay team.

“We’ve worked extremely hard getting in the right shape to run fast times,” sophomore Jake Egelsee said. “We’re just trying to represent Leander well.”

Next up the varsity boys’ track team competed at the Viper Relays and placed 3rd overall. 1st place winners were the 4X400 meter relay team with sophomore Gavin Davis, senior Isaiah Turner, senior Jaxson Starnes and junior Stephan Zaparolli, and Davis won first in the 100 and 400 meter races.

“[My teammates have helped me by] supporting me, giving me a challenge to run against and making me want to push myself harder during practice,” Davis said. “Honestly without them I don’t think I’d be running as fast as I do. They give me a reason to want to win.”

Next up the varsity boys’ track team will compete at the Hippo Relays at Hutto High School today.
