After the District meet at Vandegrift, the varsity girls team advanced for eight events for Area and the varsity boys also advanced eight events.

“The thing that I am most proud of is that a majority of the girls are making their 3rd and for some 4th appearance at the Area track meet and watching the girls practice you understand why,” Girls’ Head Coach Gigi Heermans said. “Their work ethic has created such a powerful force in my program and it radiates.”

For the third year in a row all three of the girls’ relays, 4X100, 4X200, 4X400, are heading to state as well as senior Olufunmilayo “Funmi” Orekoya for the 400m, sophomore Busisiwe Banda and senior Prades Larks in the triple jump, senior Claire Crone in the 1600m and 3200m and senior Rayanna Carter in the 200m. Boys advancing to Area are senior Chris Patek in long jump, sophomore Gavin Davis in the 400m and 800m, senior Ray Gibson in the triple jump, junior Derek Voss in pole vault, junior Charlie Ruiz in the 110m hurdles as well as the 4X200 and 4X400 relay teams.

“I’m looking to jump my best jump for triple and qualify for regionals,” Banda said. “We’re excited because we are one of the best schools in our district and this is some girls fourth year qualifying for Area.”

The teams will be competing at Area in Marble Falls today.
