The Varsity wrestlers took on Hutto and Cedar Park at the Cedar Park/Hutto Tri-Meet at home. The team defeated both schools and came out undefeated. Right before district Coach McLain says the team is still competing at a high level.

“This team has put in an incredible amount of time and hard work to get where they are,” Head Coach Adam McLain said. “We are very excited to get to district to see where we match up with the other teams in the area. I am confident that this Leander team is one of the best we have had in a long time and will surprise some people at district.”

Next the JV wrestlers took part in the Cedar Park JV meet and came out with a first place winner and two second place winners.

“We have improved all year on the JV level and look to compete well at district,” Coach McLain said.

Freshman Grant Burroughs took first, junior Maceo Jenkins and freshmen Thomas Hardin both took second.

“Definitely the coaches [helped me do well],” Burroughs said. “They helped me fix my flaws and improve my technique. [My highlight] was during my second match when I pinned my opponent with a very tricky and risky move.”

The Varsity and JV wrestlers will compete next in the District Tournament at Vandegrift from February 6-8.
