Cross Country off to the races

By Ben Fischer

Cross country started their 2010 season off with a roar. “This weekend the cross country team traveled to Hutto and burned up the course,” Kevin Lawson, coach, said.

Bringing home two gold medals, as well as several other placing medals, at the Aug. 28 meet. The boys team, lead by Javier Esquivel, junior; Jackson Quiroz, freshman; Andrew Raggio and Jesse Attaway, seniors, without disappointment brought home a 5th place medal.  “I considered it a success, we placed, everyone ran hard, and everyone had a good time,” Andrew Raggio, senior, said.

To cap off the meet, both JV girls and girls Varisty brought home the gold. JV was lead by Chelsey Lucio, junior; Lexi Brooks, senior; Whitney Carpenter and Kelli Knippa, sophomores. Varsity runners are Katherine Strubel and Hannah Giamfortone, freshman; Sarah Miller, sophomore; and Stephanie Wangui, senior, brought home a first place medal! “We have a lot of young talent, as well as veterans this year,” Chelsey Lucio, junior, said.

Due to the heavy rains, the A&M meet was canceled and our runners get a week off.  Come support them at the next meet, as they burn through more courses.
