A couple weeks ago the Latin Club traveled to Westwood in order to participate in the regional JCL competition. The competition is a full day affair where students are able to participate in a variety of Latin and Roman themed events, including but not limited to: grammar, vocabulary, art events, and even Olympic like sporting events. Two students, junior Rebekah Hui and sophomore Easton Gill, represented the Lions in the competition.
“It was fun and I had a good time but there was an overall lack of lower level Latin students,” Gill said. “I think I did well in oratory but it was a little hard to prepare for some of the other subjects.”
Gill, participated in the mythology event as well as oratory and placed 2nd in level 1 boys oratory by performing a piece by ancient Roman historian Cornelius Tacitus. On March 29th through April 1st both he and Hui, as well as two other latin club student, will be heading to San Antonio to participate in the state level competition.
“Rebekah and Easton both worked hard studying and memorizing authentic Latin pieces to perform before a panel and they will both have the opportunity to place again at state,” Latin teacher Elisha Lueers said.
