Leander competed against Vandegrift, Westlake, Buda, Lake Travis, Vista Ridge, and Kyle Lehman at McNeil this past Tuesday on October 10.
“We have worked so hard for so long,” coach Aubrey Lindberg-buchhorn said. “Run – the word itself asks a question when you spell it out… Are you in?”
Junior Varsity girls placed 6th as a team with an average time of 25:12, and boys placed 5th with 18: 58.
“District was very cold and very windy, which was a change for us because it was usually pretty warm every other meet this year,” senior Nikki Schwalbach said. “We were up to the challenge of the cold weather and last-minute altered course, and we persevered.”
Freshman Ayanna Donwerth won 2nd place with 18:58:80, and Schwalbach brought home a medal with 14th place with a time of 20:14.40. Together, the Varsity girls placed 4th, with an average time of 20:35. Leonardo Zamora placed 13th in the Varsity boys division, and his medalling time was 15:50, and won 5th place with his team, with an average time of 17:33.
“I feel really happy about the district meet,” Donwerth said. “It was amazing. I’ve never seen a team that puts so much work into what they do. I feel so happy and excited for regionals, but scared.”
Zamora, Donwerth, and Schwalbach will be competing in the Regionals meet at the Texas A&M Dugan Stadium in Corpus Christi on October 3rd.
“Even though the outcome wasn’t what we expected or wanted, I still believe everyone performed to the best of their ability, and I’m very proud of my team,” Schwalbach said.
