Newspaper has been placed as alternates for UIL Regionals.

Senior Assistant Editor Claire Kyllonen placed sixth in news writing, and fifth in feature writing. Senior Editor-in-Chief Siandhara Bonnet placed fifth in editorial writing, and sophomore staff writer Austin Graham placed sixth. Graham also placed fifth in headline writing.

“Placing in news came as a surprise,” Kyllonen said. “It’s not usually my strongest category in competition, so I was excited that I placed at all. It means I’ve improved and I’m heading in the right direction.

Many of the staff that placed are listed as alternates for regionals.

“I expected to place in feature,” Kyllonen said. “Unfortunately, I didn’t get as high as I wanted, but I hope to learn from my mistakes.”

UIL regionals is set to start on Saturday.
