Select members of this year’s DECA chapter participated in the District Six competition. Each member received a Texas District Winner plaque in their respective categories.

The DECA Chapter members compete every year in a number of different business events at competition. This year, DECA officers chose to only compete in roleplay events, where a member learns of a scenario only ten minutes before answering questions in front of a judge. Each member competed in a different event, ranging from Restaurant and Food Service Management Series to Human Resources Management Series.

“I did [Business Services Marketing Series] because I am interested in corporate marketing and management,” DECA president junior Brianna Townsend said. “I went into my event feeling nervous and hopeful.”

Senior Jennifer Munson, Townsend, sophomores Brock Cantu, Kyle Decker, Hunter Newman, Liberty Stewart, and freshman Michelle Parker all competed in the District 6 Competition, hosted at Round Rock High School, last Saturday.

“I was very excited when I made it to state,” Townsend said “but I was even more excited and proud of my team when all of them made it as well.”

In their role plays, members had to assume to role of, usually, an employee or interviewee for the company. After being given a problem, they would be asked to demonstrate their knowledge on the subject.

“I had studied and practiced,” Townsend said “so I felt confident.”

The team will advance to the state competition in San Antonio, beginning on February 25. They will have to take another test before advancing.

“I’m just so excited for to group to go to State and hopefully win at Nationals,” DECA sponsor Ms. Groomes said.
