At first glance, the trending #SuicideSquad is a little concerning, but once curious minds look into the tag, they’ll discover that it’s more than just an alarming name.

For those who are not subdued in trends or DC Comics movie releases, Suicide Squad  is about a secret government agency run by Amanda Waller called the Suicide Squad, comprised of highly skilled super villains assigned to execute dangerous tasks in exchange for shorter prison sentences.

The big hype has been caused by an official casting release by Warner Bros. and DC, and a release date for the movie, August 5, 2016. The cast, according to IGN, includes Jared Leto as the Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot, Tom Hardy as Rick Flag, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress. It has also been rumored that Jesse Eisenberg could play Lex Luthor, and Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, and Oprah Winfrey being on the short list for Waller.

Generally, the Suicide Squad never really took priority for DC fans. It’s been on and off, and even cancelled, since 1987, but The Guardians of the Galaxy never took center stage until this year. It’s also significant to point out that the Joker has never, in the long list of members in the squad, been a part of the group until now. Not only that, but Leto will be watched intensely as he is measured against Heath Ledger from the Batman movie, The Dark Knight, before his passing in 2008.

On social media, fans are expressing their excitement for the casting release, but also their disapproval. Some think that no one could ever play the Joker again after Ledger’s performance, but others are willing to accept the challenge. Another big topic is who will play Waller. Winfrey is Warner Bros. and DC’s first choice, but fans are suggesting other actors such as CCH Pounder. Only time will tell. Happy hunting.
