Winterguard received 2nd and the State silver medal at the Texas Color Guard Circuit Championships this past weekend.

The guard traveled down to college station Saturday morning for an afternoon performance, their first of two that weekend. They received a score of 80.73 and headed back to their hotel.

Sunday the guard had an excellent second performance with an improved score of 81.74 for their 2nd place win. Their first win of the season was a score of 60.22 showing a vast amount of improvement from the beginning to the end of the season. The Guard arrived late Sunday night to a big welcome home from parents, friends, and band directors.

This year was more competitive than in previous years and the guard was competing against some groups they have never faced before.

“We were pretty excited about coming in second,” junior Joci Guerra said. “We were so close we missed it by 1.08, so we weren’t far off from Pearland.”

Senior Merideth Monroe has participated in guard the past four years and has brought a  lot of hard work to the team. She received the TCGC scholarship earning her $500 towards college. Monroe had to write four essays including one where she had to design a guard show. Monroe will be attending Stephen F. Austin University in the fall to earn a degree in english education.

“I was really excited I didn’t think I was going to get it,” Monroe said. “$500 is better than nothing, I’m really happy I got it.”

The season is over and the guard celebrated their accomplishments with a party. Tryouts to be a part of this amazing group will take place at the end of the April.
