Every year on Labor Day, crowds of people celebrate at local lakes and beaches with friends and family. However, as COVID-19 is still a present issue, here are five socially distant ways you could spend the holiday instead.

1. Movie Night

Instead of taking a crowded and potentially unsafe trip, celebrate with a movie night with a few friends. Buy some snacks, sit on the couch, and marathon some of your favorite movies. If possible, set up a projector in the backyard and watch movies under the stars.

2. Take a hike

If it feels like Labor Day would not be complete without spending some time outdoors, a perfect way to stay socially distant is to go for a hike. Explore some local trails with friends or family, but make sure to remember your mask.

3. Go to an outdoor restaurant

Support local businesses by finding a restaurant with outdoor seating. Enjoy the outdoors and some good food in a safe environment.

4. Do something productive

A great way to spend a day off is by finishing the tasks that have been on your to-do list for a while. Redecorate your room, clean out your closet, or do any number of productive tasks that have become less of a priority since school started.

5. Find a secluded spot

Instead of going to crowded lakes nearby, discover a hidden spot. Find a swimming hole, trail or other outdoor area that’s less densely populated to spend the day with your friends.
