This year, the Spanish club will be hosting the schools first toy drive to collect toys for low-income families. The total count will be taken in all 2nd-period classes, and the last collection day will be on Friday. Dec 7.

“It’s a good opportunity for those who are less fortunate,” sophomore Chloe Hicks said. “Plus it gives us an opportunity to help others in our community.”

Toys can be dropped off in your second-period class or to the front office inside the barrel. No plush or textile toys will be accepted and they will need to be in the age range of 2-12. Spanish club also asks that the toys be new or gently used.

“I think it’s a pretty cool thing that our school is doing,” sophomore Kylie Albert said. “It’s nice to give away toys you don’t need to make a child happy, and If I’m able to, I will definitely donate.”

The winners of their 2nd-period class will win a prize of a class set of gift cards from Sonic, Bahama Bucks and Marco’s Pizza.

“Giving to the less fortunate is something that I think we should all consider doing,” sophomore Kate Wright said. “It brings me joy and it warms my heart when I see that I contributed to making someone’s life a little better because of something I did.”

Spanish club also asks for people to assist them in the process of collecting toys and making the boxes. If you or someone you know is interested in helping with the toy drive, you can talk to Mrs. Moreno located in room 2108 for more information.

“Honestly I love the Leander High toy drive,” sophomore Selma Rodriguez said. “It’s a great way to gather toys for kids that don’t have any toys at all, and I look forward to it again next year.”
