Leander Lions closed the 08-09 Season on a win and clenched the district championship outright. In a packed home gym they defeated the Cedar Park Timberwolves 57 to 53.
The playoff bound Lions have home court advantage when they play for the bi-district crown on Tuesday, Feb. 24 in their own gym. At 7:00 p.m. the Lions take on Cypress Falls from Houston.
“It was great to end the season on a good note. The team worked really hard, and we’re pleased to have accomplished our goals,” Tucker Hancock, senior No. 4, said.
It’s been a dry spell for the boys winning an outright district championship, but last night the spell was broken. In 2001-2002 they shared a co-district championship with Westwood and won the bi-district championship as well. It’s safe to say that this is the first time in over forty years that the boys claim the district title outright.
Following the game, team members and coaches cut down the net, signifying the end of a great district season. According to Clint Bradley, coach, standout players for the game were Joel Smith, A D Jones and Jean-Maurice Blanchard.
