In preparation for graduation, graduating seniors picked up their caps and gowns April 29 in the science hallway.
“It feels so real now,” senior Carolina Cardenas-Bushell said. “It’s a very surreal [feeling]. I’m kind of shaking a little. It’s giving me major butterflies right now.”
Seniors have said this last semester has been more stressful than the first semester.
”I’ve definitely missed a few more days than I did last semester,” Cardenas-Bushell said. “But overall, it’s been pretty fun. I’m relaxing right now because everything is kind of finalized right now. I’m just trying to not let some classes stress me out.”
Graduation is scheduled to be held on May 24 at the HEB center.
“Logically, [I feel prepared to graduate, but emotionally, it’s iffy,” Cardenas-Bushell said. “I’m not ready to be an adult, I don’t want to do taxes. I’m excited for that freedom, but it’s going to be weird being on my own.”
Some students who graduated a semester early said graduation is a way to fully end the chapter.
“It’s kind of weird, especially considering I haven’t been in school for the last couple of months,” senior Ashton Bernal said. ”I’ve been doing college for the last couple months, and I’m like, ‘Oh now I have to go back and graduate high school.’”
In addition to graduation, seniors have been finalizing their college decisions.
“It’s kind of crazy,” senior Sara Nishimura said. “It’s like, oh, it’s almost over. I think I’m ready [though]. I’m going to Depaul University in Chicago.”
