Champion athlete, Homecoming Prince, stellar student, Prom Court member, HOSA member, NHS inductee, PALs: is there anything senior Grant Shewmaker cannot do?

On May 5, Shewmaker received the honor of being inducted to the National Football Foundation for his accomplishments on and off the field. He and 45 other players from the region attended a ceremony at the Erwin Center at the University of Texas at Austin, where they had the opportunity to meet other college football players and coaches.

“There were so many great people there,” Shewmaker said. “It was just an honor to be a part of it.”

Shewmaker was honored that night, along with 11 others, with a $1000 scholarship at the end of the evening. It will help Shewmaker since he plans to attend college at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore in the fall.

“I saw it [Johns Hopkins] was perfect for my future career,” Shewmaker said. “I was a little surprised; I didn’t think I’d get in.”

Shewmaker plans to attend Johns Hopkins and pursue otherpedic surgery.

“I’ve had a passion for it my entire life,” Shewmaker said. “I just want to learn more about it in order to help people.”
