The Latin Club will be holding a meeting for all it’s new/returning members and officers to discuss the Latin competition. The JCL competition stands for the Junior Classical League and will cover all areas of the Roman culture as well as the language. The meeting was held on Oct. 9.

“The people who can participate in the challenge will be in the meeting and members in Latin Club,” junior historian Kember Campbell said. “I am very excited to be apart of it because we have seen a lot of growth this year compared to previous years. I cannot wait to meet all of the new people who are joining during this meeting.”

The competition will be held on Friday, Feb. 19 at 12 p.m. to Sunday, Feb. 21 at 12 p.m. at Rouse High School. This will be the Area F competition, where if they advance, they will be eligible for state.

“I feel like it will be a very eye opening event,” junior Angili Slater said. “I am excited that I will be able to meet new people.”

Later on in the month, the club will be having a toga-making-party in preparation for the Renaissance Fair on November 7th. There they will be bringing their own sheets which they will decorate with markers. They will cut and tie the sheets to make togas for the Latin members to wear at the fair when they attend.

“I’m going to make a spectacular toga,” Slater said. “It will have cat faces on it and things like that. The reason for the cat faces is because I like drawing cats. I will also probably write something about loving Larson. He is my favorite person, but sadly he is not in Latin. Hopefully he joins.”
