Snapology is a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Math) organization that offers workshops, after-school classes, and summer camps. Theprogram came to Leander the first week of October, 2022. Snapology uses Legos to teach kids how to build and program different things. During the Spring competition on May 3rd, children from after-school classes compete by constructing a car with a unique design, capable of moving forward and backward, stopping at a specific time, and playing music.
Owner Kim Nissan discusses why she opened Snapology.
“After COVID hit, I tried to sign my daughter up for Snapology classes, and then I realized Snapology was closed,” Nissan said. “After that, my husband and I did research on how to get one in our area. We opened a Snapology franchise to provide kids with fun, Lego-based learning experiences in STEM, robotics, engineering, life skills, and programming.”
Nissan believes there are life lessons that come with being involved in this program.
“Our goal is to foster the development of social skills, teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking,” Nissan said. “Something I say to my daughter a lot is ‘let’s be problem solvers.’ This means coming up with solutions before you ask for help. This crucial skill benefits children when learned early, offering lifelong value.”
Chani Lajuanie, Operations Manager, discusses what she enjoys about having these camps.
“I think my favorite part is watching the kids catch on to something we’ve been teaching and seeing the aha moment,” Lajuanie said. “It is rewarding for both the kids and the teachers to see the excitement when they finish a task they have been working on. I also love watching the kids help their peers around them and pass on what they have learned.”
