More than 400 students to graduate Saturday

Graduation begins at 10 a.m. at HEB Center

About 490 students are on the list to graduate Saturday, May 24 at the HEB Center.

They spent two hours practicing on Thursday morning in the gym.

The graduating seniors have been offered more than $8 million in scholarships according to Megan Wolske, College & Career Transition coordinator. In addition, they have earned more than 2,000 dual-credit hours with Austin Community College.

David Slaughter said he was excited for graduation and plans to attend ACC for the free tuition.

“I am excited to see what is next for me and what I am capable of,” he said. “I am still trying to figure it out.”

Haven Gier also said she was excited.

“Well, it is the end of four years, and I’m am giving a speech and I am pretty exited for that.”

After graduation, Gier said she plans to do whatever life takes me, “whatever the wind blows.”

Akeelah Watson agreed about the excitement in the gym packed full of potential graduates.

“We have literally waited for this moment for 12 years of our life like this was the only motivation to get through high school and we are finally here.”
