On Dec. 12, the Leander ISD Board of Trustees authorized eight new classes for the 2020-21 school year at the December board meeting.

The participating locations for the classes remain unknown and will depend on the demand.

These are the new courses:

  • AP Physics 1: This course is modeled after a preparatory college course in physics, and gives an opportunity to earn credits equivalent to a first-semester college course in physics.
  • Chamber Ensemble: This elective course is an alternative to Jazz Ensemble and it will require students to perform in formal settings, such as concerts.
  • Cybersecurity Capstone: The purpose of this course is to inform students about the fundamentals, ethics and laws involved in cybersecurity.
  • Practicum in Law, Safety, Corrections and Securities: This class allows students to learn about law, public safety, corrections and security.
  • Practicum in Audio Visual Production: The purpose of this class is to offer instruction in audio and video communications in preparation for careers that involve those skills.
  • Practicum in Graphic Design and Illustrations: This course will offer students an introduction to careers in graphic design and illustration, as well as skills for careers in advertising and the visual communications industry.
  • Practicum in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM): Students in this course will learn to apply existing STEM knowledge to lessons.
  • Principles of Architecture: In this course, students will be provided with general knowledge of architecture, construction and interior design, giving instruction to prepare students for careers in these fields.
