This week’s news recap, featuring North Korea and Kim Jong Un

by Laksha Vijaikumar, Editor

Kim Jong Un and Boris Johnson: two of my least favorite men. What is up with these guys and their apparent need to constantly stir up drama? Ugh, the fact that they’re constantly in the news means that I have to constantly write about them. From North Korea’s US policy induced hissy fit to Boris Johnson completely ignoring COVID restrictions, everything is in shambles.

North Korean Missile Test:

North Korea: the US’s favorite country at the moment. I was being sarcastic, if you couldn’t tell. After all, the US definitely won’t be inviting North Korea to Friendsgiving any time soon. This Tuesday, North Korea fired two missiles that landed on their east coast. This was done in retaliation against the US’s apparent disdain towards North Korea’s nuclear weapons armory. Both President Biden and former President Trump have openly spoken about their concerns over the lack of regulation for North Korea’s weapons. Surprisingly, I’m on the US’s side on this issue. Honestly, disregarding North Korea’s abundance of human rights violations, and the fact that they’ve probably committed every war crime ever, their missile test was kind of iconic. Now, I’m not going to say I agree with just launching a bunch of missiles in the air, but the fact that they completely ignored the US’s warning and were like, “Screw you guys,” is hilarious. Let’s see what President Biden has to say about this. I don’t think war or anything is imminent, but even if it was, who cares, because women can’t even get drafted! See not what you can do for sexism, but what sexism can do for you.

Boris Johnson COVID Scandal:

Boris Johnson finds himself in yet another scandal, again. Boris is the best prime minister, for those who don’t know who he is. Just kidding, that role goes to resident pretty boy, Justin Trudeau. Boris is the other prime minister everyone talks about; the fella with the wild hair, if that clarifies anything. Recently the UK had a crackdown on quarantining, as the new COVID variant, Omicron, has been wreaking havoc on the British. However, Boris Johnson was caught having a massive party amidst the strict regulations. May I add that his wife, who happens to be 24 years younger than him, was in attendance? That has nothing to do with the story, but I feel like their age gap says a lot about his character. How Boris Johnson has managed to stay  prime minister is a question scholars have been pondering for centuries.
