Top four free SXSW events
The mass of culture, art, music, and film known as South by Southwest is nearing. This year’s festival will feature Solange, hip hop group Migos, the Avett Brothers, and more. If you don’t have a few hundred dollars to shell out for a badge, don’t worry. Those without paid passes can still enjoy a myriad of free events.
Hosted at the Whole Foods flagship store, this year’s rooftop concert will feature acts like Hanson, Modern English, and more. The two-day event will benefit the Whole Foods Foundation which is dedicated to encourage healthy eating in children. It’s first come, first serve for the thousands of people that come annually, but a small donation will allow you to skip the line.
2. SXSW Create
Innovators and fun come together at SXSW Create in an air-conditioned space of high-tech play. Past years have included hands-on demonstrations of technology from local and international companies. This year’s participants include Central Texas Droids, ChickTech, and the Thinkery.
Presented by the Austin Chronicle and Austin Independent Business Alliance, local businesses come together to celebrate each other in Austin by Austin. Austin businesses will offer discounts, shuttles, live music, and art installations for ten days.
24 time Latin Grammy winner Residente joins SXSW’s official outdoor stage next to Lady Bird Lake along with Ozomatil, Wyclef Jean, and more. The three-day long event benefits LUPE Arte, a nonprofit organization that supports local Latino art and culture. Free coffee and giveaways will also be offered.
