The highly anticipated Bahama Buck’s is now open for business across the street from the school.

Bahama Buck’s is a shaved ice or “sno” restaurant that adds many different and creative flavors of shaved ice such as Blue Coconut, Ice Cream, and Hurricane along with basic flavors such as Apple, Grape, and Watermelon. Bahama Buck’s also has many restaurants across the nation and was founded in 1990. Guests at Bahama Buck’s like to refer shaved ice as “sno”.

“[It’s] a great location we like being here, this place is a lot about kids and families, and if you look at the community of Leander and the growth that’s going on, I mean that’s what Leander’s about,” owner Scott Morris said. “You know [we’re] right across the street from the high school, and the way we’re set up is with the games, and we have board games and things like that and its already been happening. Kids come in, sit at the tables, get a shaved ice, and play some games and stuff like that.  That’s what we were looking for.”

Bahama Buck’s is open from 12:00pm – 10:00pm on Mondays through Thursdays, 12:00-10:30 on Fridays and Saturdays, and 1:00-10:00 on Sundays.

“It’s a process that we are really proud of, we do everything here from making our ice to making our flavors,” Morris said. “Corporate provides us with the flavor concentrates but all of the mixing comes here, it’s 100% pure cane sugar there’s no high fructose and corn syrups in our flavors so that’s one of the things that’s unique about us, mixing our flavors and creating that and the way we create the ice and shave the ice that creates that nice creamy snow and people just love it.”

Original flavors include Apple, Banana, Birthday Cake, Coca-Cola, Cherry Coke, Cotton Candy, Cream Soda, Icing, and Wedding Cake. Some of these flavors are included in the Thin Ice flavors, which means there’s zero sugar, zero carbs, and 0 calories for customers with specific diets. The Thin Ice flavors are Jamaican Punch, Pina Colada, Strawberry Cheesecake, and etc. Super Sour flavors are Jungle Berry, Pink Lemon Sour, Watermeleon, and etc.

There are also smoothies called Island Smoothies. Island Smoothie flavors include Bahama Colada, Wavebender, Congo and more flavors.

“I’d love to work with the schools and actually we have a program put into place [called] Buck’s Encouraging Education Program and what we want to do is work with the kids, the schools, to provide more for the teachers to be able to give the students coupons for excellence and stuff that they’re doing,” Morris said.

This will be the first store of the new strip mall that is under construction across the street that is adjacent to Dollar General, Super Donuts and Subway.

“We figured in other locations where Bahama Buck’s is its been very popular with high school and college-aged kids and it’s really popular with the elementary school aged kids, after their moms pick them up after school, they’ll drop by and have a treat for the after school snack,” Morris said. “The families, the high schoolers, and some of the college kids, we’ve had students from Rouse come over, we’ve had Cedar Park, and Vista Ridge so it’s been great.”

The shaved ice was delicious and  the Bahama Rama Mama special is a fantastic mix of sno, a choice of flavor and ice cream. The Coca Cola flavor mixed with vanilla ice cream tasted delicious. Also it is very cool how the spoons that they provide change color at cooler temperatures.

Bahama Buck’s also includes a punch card which means when you buy 10 things, you get a free shaved ice.

“One of the most popular flavors is birthday cake that comes with sprinkles and we have what’s called the Bahama Rama Mama which is when you take ice cream and you put that at the bottom of the cup, then you put sno on top of that, and then the flavor of your choice, and then more sno and more flavor and cream all the way through it and it is really good,” Morris said. “I like icing and I like the tiger’s blood, but our flavors are pretty dead on. If it says it’s birthday cake, it tastes a lot like a birthday cake.”
