Lions grab All-District honors

The Lions boys basketball season ended at the area playoffs, Friday, Feb. 27 with a 2 pt. loss to Klein Forest, 67-69. Yet, the season is marked with much success as the Lions posted 29 wins and 6 losses. And though the season ended short of their goal, this team played with the heart of champions.

The Lions also claimed many well-deserved district honors. These include Joel Smith, District MVP; A.D. Jones, 1st Team All-District; Mark Nwakamma, 1st Team All-District; Jean Maurice Blanchard, 2nd Team All-District; and Tucker Hancock, Honorable Mention. Congratulation to Clint Bradley who was named District Coach of the Year.

It was fun to watch the Lions bring boys basketball back to a power in our district. It has been enjoyable to watch Clint Bradley develop the boys program over the past six years and take this team to an outright district championship and bi-district championship.

Players have nothing but positive thoughts as they reflect on the season. “I feel we really accomplished as much as we could and did our best,” Joel Smith, senior said. “It was fun and a good experience for us as a team.”

Mark Nkakamma’s highlight of the season was beating Cedar Park in our gym and claiming the district championship the same night. “I know we’re losing five seniors and next year will be challenging, but we’ll work hard and anything is possible,” Nkakamma, a 6’6” sophomore, said.

The senior starters will no doubt leave large shoes to fill, but fans look forward to another exciting season.
