The Leander Lions lost their home game against the Round Rock Dragons 30-49.

“We put all our effort into the game,” senior David Cruz said. “We need to work on finishing strong and run the ball effectively.”

The Dragons started the game with the ball first and scored on the first drive. The Lions immediately came back with a 68-yard rushing touchdown by senior Rashad Carter. The Dragons were able to get another score for them to make their lead 13-7 at the end of the first quarter. The Lions offense was shut out in the second quarter while the Dragons went on to score a 57-yard touchdown to increase their lead to 19-7 at the end of the first half.

“Offensively we have to be able to score off turnovers when the defense gets them,” senior Eric Locust said. “Defensively we just have to tackle better.”

The Lions scored two touchdowns by Carter and senior Adison Larue in the third quarter, but the Dragons were able to answer back with their own two scores to keep their lead at 21-35 at the end of the third quarter. The Dragons went on to score another two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to set their lead in stone even after Lion’s attempt at a comeback with another touchdown by Carter and a field goal by Eli Gehman. The final score to the game was 30-49.

“We have a good match-up against Mcneil,” Cruz said. “We just need to run the ball to waste the clock and give time for our defense to rest.”

The Lions will play their next conference game away against the Mcneil Mavericks on Thursday, October 18th at the Dragon’s stadium. Tickets for general admission are $8.
