The Lions played against the Stony Point Tigers on Thursday, September 15. The red team lost 20-14, and the blue team ended with a victory of 40-26.

“I was expecting a challenge, but not to be down in score like that in the first half,” red team safety Cameron Allen said. “We could have scored in our first offensive series, but their defense was too good.”

The red team was forced to punt in their first two series which was the first time they had to this season.

“I would say that we didn’t come out strong in this game,” Allen said. “I thought we were more prepared, but obviously we weren’t. I wish I wouldn’t have dropped a pass in the second quarter. If I didn’t, it probably would’ve advanced us a lot.”

The team prepared for this week’s game by listening to motivational music to get ready to take on the Tigers. Allen scored two touchdowns in the game. The Tigers tied the score in the third quarter until Allen caught an interception for the win.

“We went into the game not serious enough,” Allen said. “During half time we got a news flash and started playing harder.”

This year’s freshmen team is one of the largest teams our school has had in a long time.

“We have a good group of athletes in this freshmen class,” coach McClain said. “They play hard and have confidence in their ability to play the game. The entire coaching staff has confidence in this team. They have started off good, and we hope to continue that success.”

The lions take on the Vista Ridge Rangers next Thursday on September 22. The blue team starts at 5:30 p.m and the red team at 7 p.m.
