It’s Only Just Begun: Girls Basketball Preseason Overview

The basketball season has commenced and It’s time for another one of Leander’s Lady Lion teams to shine. The girls varsity, junior varsity and freshman basketball teams have already begun practicing as well as competing in scrimmages. The varsity traveled for their first scrimmage against the Del Valle Lady Cardinals. The Lady Lions were able to enter the season with a strong win there. However, the girls were not victorious in their second scrimmage against the Round Rock Lady Dragons.
Along with scrimmages, the girls play a number of preseason games as well. One of the teams the Lady Lions faced off against was the Hendrickson Lady Hawks. During this game the team had to come together to fight a difficult opponent. Hendrickson played a scrappy yet aggressively physical game.The Lady Lions were able to maintain the lead the entire game. That doesn’t mean that Lady Hawks didn’t battle. By the end of the 4th quarter, with 4 seconds left, the game was tied 52-52. Leander High School had possession of the ball, senior Dreya Williams kicked it out to junior Sonya Reyes behind the three point line. Reyes shot the ball and scored a buzzer beater winning the game for the Lady Lions.
The team has also taken part in a number of tournaments, one of which took place at Georgetown High School with teams from all over Texas. The Lady Lions played hard the each game throughout the tournament. Some wins and some losses. Overall the Lady Lions finished with an outstanding win against the Coronado Lady Mustangs from Lubbock. The girls placed third in the whole tournament.
This is only the beginning for the Lady Lion season, stayed updated on how the season goes. The team will begin their district season on Friday December 13 against the Marble Falls Lady Mustangs at 7 pm at Marble Falls High School. Come out and show your support.
