Ace of Bases
Lady Lions continue playoff run vs. Boerne Champion
Our Lady Lion softball is blazing through their post-season games and making their way to the state championship one game at a time. The team defeated the Lady Rebels on April 25, allowing the team to advance to the second round of playoffs.
The team was able to get a total of 14 hits by the end of the night. Each player did their part, and the hits just kept coming from almost every player in the lineup. However, softball isn’t just a swing and hit sport. Junior pitcher Hannah Holt threw a one-hitter, meaning the Lady Rebels were only able to hit a single pitch.
Playoffs is nothing to these girls but each game is different as well as each team. Killing each team softly is not a part of the plan for success.
“We played to our level and didn’t play down to theirs,” junior Shelby Irlbeck said. “We came out strong by scoring every inning and finished by only allowing one person on base. Playoffs is looking promising for us and if we play every game like we played against Travis, then we will have a great run this year.”
Tonight the Lady Lions head off to Marble Falls to play the Lady Greyhounds at 6:00 pm. Playing Boerne’s team will be a new experience for the girls but ultimately they are playing a game they love.
“My thoughts tonight are to play every inning like it’s our last and come out strong and with a win,” senior Hannah Giamfortone said.
If the odds are in the Lions’ favor tonight there will be more new experiences and more games to be played.
“For games to come, I want us to not underestimate anyone, to enjoy every moment and hopefully advance to the state tournament,” Giamfortone said.
Send your support with our Lady Lions as they represent our school and our softball program. Show those Greyhounds how to play ball!
