After a very successful season, tennis set a season record of 11-8 and district record of 3-3.

“This is the best overall season we’ve had in many years,” Coach Kostoff said.

The Lion tennis team went into the district 25-4A fall tourney ranked as 4th. Their first round was a bye, but in the second they played against Marble Falls. At first, things looked tough with a 7-4 match score, but the Lions conquered 6 straight single matches to come out with a score of 10-7 and moved on to semi-finals.
“We had solid gold performance from our seniors; they really stepped up and showed great leadership by taking care of business in their matches. Julie Muzy won the marathon match 6-7, 7-6, 7-6. Those are the highest scores you can have in any set,” Coach Kostoff said.

In the semi-finals, the Lions faced a hard-to-beat and eventual champion team from Vandegrift. The Lions lost match 10-1, the only victory coming from sophomore Alper Orkun and senior Julie Muzy in the mixed doubles.
“That was the one match we expected to win against Vandegrift because we had beaten that double team before in the season. It wasn’t the easiest match, but it was definitely win-able,” sophomore Alper Orkun said.
Lastly, the tennis team faced Rouse for third place, but fell a bit short with a score of 10-4.
“There were some matches we needed to win, but we didn’t quite get them.” Coach Kostoff said.
Spring tennis will start in January, and they start playing tourneys in February.
