“We are young and enthusiastic” Gigi Heermans, head track coach, pointed out about this year’s girls track team. After last year’s season, all the girls got ready to kick off a new season on February 28th for their first track meet at Lake Travis.
“Well, I would say our team strengths are that our girls are really competitive and want to perform really well,” Heermans said. “This also boosts up the team spirit because the girls are pushing each other to their fullest potential.” Other than that, she not only pointed out some strength, but also can point out some weakness that the track team is currently working on. “Young and inexperienced”, are the only words she used to describe those weaknesses.
However, with many weeks of practice passing by and competing in many exciting meets this season, the team has a lot of time to improve. When asked if any athletes would stand out this year Coach Heermans responded, “Yes, but because of team building skills I am not going to name individuals.”By saying that she wanted to let the people know that if you want to see any individuals stand out, go out and watch the track meets; other than that the Lady Lions track team remains as one team.
The ladies have been advanced to regional meet in Waco, Texas at Baylor University, April 24 and 25.
