The varsity wrestling team placed 21 out of 43 teams at the Centex Invitational Tournament.

“The team was shorthanded for this tournament due to multiple factors, including illness and weightt management issues,” head coach Adam Mclain said.

New varsity wrestlers junior Alex Williams, junior Devin Martinez, and freshman Britton Webber all picked up wins. Sophomore John Geiger placed 1 in the 133 pound division by going 4-0.

“I had to be more patient and figure out their fighting style before trying to win points,” Webber said. “It felt really good to win because they were more experienced than me and had better technique so it was an accomplishment.”

The wrestling team will compete next in a quad meet on Wednesday, January 11 at Cedar Park High School.

“We are shuffling some weight classes around, as well as adding some new varsity faces,” coach Mclain said. “We should be hitting our stride when the district tournament rolls around.”
