Athletic Trainers Host 5K Fun Run
You could be a part of a tradition as the trainers host this event for the fourth year in a row.
This year the athletic trainers are hosting their fourth annual Cub Run/Fun Run.
“The athletic trainers will be there to direct traffic and hand out water,” athletic trainer instructor Dawn Allen said. “They’ll [also] work at the finish line to help with any injuries as runners cross.”
The Cub Run is a 1K race. Registration for that is $15 until April 8, after that the price increases to $20 until April 25. The 1K race will start inside AC Bible stadium at 8:00 am and will go outside on the surrounding closed roads finishing back into AC Bible stadium. The first 11 runners will be awarded a medal for their accomplishment. And the overall boy and girl will be awarded a $25 gift card to Rogue.
The 5K Fun Run will take place thirty minutes after the Cub Run at 8:30 am. Registration is $25 until April 8, and will increase to $30 until April 25th. At that date Registration will be closed. The start and finish will be at the same location of the 1K but will cover more of the surrounding campus with 3 water stops. The overall winners of the race will be receiving awards from Rogue Running. There will also be winners for each individual age group. The winners of each group will receive a $25 Rogue gift card. It is flat closed course great for experienced runners wanting to go fast and novice runners just wanting to finish.
“Right now our numbers are kind of down because there are a lot of other fun runs and 5Ks going on, but usually we have around 100 and 125 runners signed up,” Allen said.
During the race there will be a supervised kids play area (with a bounce house from Sock Hop) that the little ones can play while the adults run the 5K. The Leander Fire Department will be there with the fire engine for kids to explore.
After the race runners will also be a chance to win door prizes that consist of gift cards for Qdoba, AMC Movies, Bellini’s and Pluckers also, post-run food will be provided for the runners. So stick around for to win.
We are located at 3301 S. Bagdad in Leander. Enter the stadium parking lot thru the front entrance of Leander High School via Bagdad Road. We will have designated parking. The Lakeline entrance on the back of the school will be closed to traffic.
