April 21, 2014
After a year of hard work the baseball team has finally secured a spot in the playoffs. The team defeated Marble Falls on the 15th 7-3 to earn their spot in playoffs. Then on the 17th varsity pulled out another win 8-4.
The team was confident going into the game against Marble Falls and is happy to have the opportunity to play in the playoffs.
“We went in with good confidence that we really wanted to get to playoffs and we just really did what we needed to to win the game,” junior Griffin Mavis said.
The season started rough for the lions. However, they have greatly improved and are getting ready to move on.
“We started off with two losses to Cedar Park, and playoffs was getting farther away from our viewpoint,” Mavis said. “But we powered through the past three weeks and we’re in playoffs now. We’re working on getting all of our tactics together, and getting our hitting and our defense in sync. If we can put those two together I think we’ll have a good chance.”
Continuous improvement is important to the team along with all the other technical aspects.
“We have a lot of work to do to make it far into the playoffs like we want to,” junior Jake Montegomery said. “Like we have to practice our offense, not striking out as much and have more quality at bats. I’d say our teamwork is good and we have a good solid defense.”
The first playoff game will be against Vista Ridge at Rouse HS at 7 pm for the 3rd District spot.
