Keep an ear out
Spotlight of artists to see at ACL
October 6, 2017
An increase in the sale of CamelBaks, schedules being compared and building excitement can only mean one thing: Austin City Limits is days away from kicking off! Being at ACL is a great experience in and of itself, but here are some key artists to try and catch with exception to headliners like Chance the Rapper, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The xx and Jay Z.
Martin Garrix
One of the few headliners to make the list is Dutch DJ, also known as Martin Garrix. Garrix is probably the most popular DJ at the moment. The 21-year-old’s bouncing party music is sure to be a great Friday opener. Garrix is known for his elaborate sets, so expect a great show display as well as musical performance. He has collaborated with artists such as Justin Beiber, Usher and Ed Sheeran, so keep your eyes open for him bringing on another performer. He’ll be performing on Friday, October 6 and 13 at the HomeAway stage from 7:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.
A$AP Ferg
With ACL being known for more alternative style of music, Ferg will be sure to attract a lot of rap fanatics. His rough, hard hitting songs like ‘Work REMIX’ and ‘Shabba’ are fan favorites. The Brooklyn rapper’s latest album, Cozy Tapes Vol. 2: Too Cozy, is with the group A$AP Mob which consists of other popular rappers such as A$AP Rocky. This will hopefully lead to a feature of these other artists. He’ll be performing on Saturday, October 7 and 14 at the American Express stage from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Brothers Osborne
For all country music fans, this is one of the few of the genre available to see for the whole festival. The brothers play a calm Nashville style of music that will be great to relax to and enjoy while preparing for the nightly shows. ‘Stay A Little Longer’ is probably their best known song. They’ll be performing on Sunday, October 8 and 15 at the HomeAway stage from 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.
Vance Joy
One Indie pop artist to really look out for is Vance Joy. The Australian plays a mellow type of music that has attracted a lot of fans. His soft and smooth vocals over a variety of backgrounds to create a feel good vibe for listeners. His best known songs are ‘Mess is Mine’ and ‘Riptide’ from the Dream Your Life Away album. He’ll be performing on Sunday, October 8 and 15 at the Miller Lite stage from 7:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.
First Aid Kit
Out of every performer on this list, this Swedish-folk duo are probably the least well known artists. The band heavily sticks to the mainstream folk-genre that is prevalent throughout ACL, but also incorporate an international twist. Some of their best songs, such as ‘Emmylou’ and ‘Wolf’, are perfect calm music for those moments where you’re driving with the windows down on a sunny day. They will be performing on Sunday October 8 and 15 at the HomeAway stage from 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.
