Two students, juniors Jahred Cleveland and Jared Bouloy were nominated to go to Texas Boys State. The program, started in 1935, allows junior boys the opportunity to take part in Texas government and even have mock elections.

“I’m looking forward to addressing and debating the issues that we are facing as a country and a state,” Bouly said.

To be nominated, the boys must have strong academic performance, excellent interpersonal skills, exhibit leadership and solid oratorical skills. The lead counselor picks junior boys who they think fit these requirements.

“It came as a surprise,” Cleveland said. “My teacher asked if I was into government. I said yes and she nominated me.”

The boys will be going to Texas Boys State in the summer June 12-17 and will have the chance to visit the state capital.
