Let them compete!

UIL moves to virtual platform

UIL has moved Speech and Debate’s state meet to May 27 to 28 and will be held online for the first time in UIL history.

“Our prep isn’t really all that different because we prepare on our own time,” junior Geneva Mclain said. “I think the biggest change will be competition. I have no idea what virtual competition will look like.”

The competition will be held on a virtual platform, speculated to be Zoom, and students will present and compete from home to stay in accordance with Mayor Adler’s social distancing mandates.

“I think I’ll be nervous but everyone will probably be too,” Mclain said. “I’ll definitely have to work on my presentation since I’ll only have a 2D 4×4 screen to get my point across rather than being person to person.”
